Speaking in Tongues is a three-part Australian drama that weaves together the intersecting lives of nine characters played by four actors. The play’s complex, polyphonic structure jumps backwards, forwards, and sideways through time, presenting parallel moments out of sequence and overlapping simultaneously on stage. The narrative maps the rights and wrongs of emotional conduct, a landscape typified by a sense of disconnection and a shifting moral code. Throughout Speaking in Tongues, intimates betray commitments, strangers forge bonds, and abstract form meets deeply personal content in a moving testament to the human will to connect.
